*Expert Calls for Regular Training of Clearing Agents to Enhance Industry Growth*

By Lod Onyeji

Dr. Azeez Abayomi Mustapha, Managing Principal of AZ Logistics Limited, has advocated for regular training of freight forwarders to enhance industry growth and professionalism. Speaking at the Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) Monthly Round Table, Mustapha attributed unprofessional conduct by some clearing agents to a lack of information and knowledge.

*The Need for Industry Sanitation*

Mustapha expressed concern over the increasing spate of extortion, intimidation, and unprofessionalism in the port industry, which casts a bad light on the country. He commended the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) for efforts to sanitize the industry but emphasized the need for more to be done.

*Challenges Facing the Industry*

Mustapha highlighted the challenges facing the industry, including government policies that affect trade facilitation. He noted that most policies are introduced without stakeholder engagement or public hearings, leading to bureaucratic bottlenecks.

*The Role of AZ Logistics*

AZ Logistics, a leading logistics company, provides comprehensive services, including import documentation, customs clearance, and door-to-door delivery. Mustapha emphasized the company's commitment to integrity and customer satisfaction, built on referrals and reputation.

*Commendation for Customs Leaders*

Mustapha congratulated the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO), describing it as a historic moment for Nigeria and Africa. He also commended Assistant Comptroller General of Customs (ACG) Zone A, Charles Orbih, and Customs Area Controllers Babatunde Olomu and Frank Onyeka for their outstanding performance in revenue generation and anti-smuggling campaigns.
