Nigeria Customs Service Scores Big in Anti-Smuggling Operations

The Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Ikeja, Lagos, Mohammed Shuaibu, has announced significant achievements in the unit's efforts to combat smuggling and illicit trade. During his maiden press briefing, Shuaibu highlighted the unit's successes in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations, and trade facilitation.
Revenue Generation
The unit has recovered N20,792,372.99 through demand notices and auction sales of seized goods. Shuaibu emphasized the importance of intelligence-driven operations in optimizing revenue streams.
Anti-Smuggling Operations
The unit has made notable seizures, including 4,085 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 15 illegally imported vehicles, 82 packs of Tramadol, and 246 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa. The seizures have a duty-paid value of N1,501,312,425.00. Shuaibu pledged to continue collaborating with sister security agencies and border communities to dismantle smuggling networks.
Trade Facilitation
Shuaibu emphasized the importance of efficient trade facilitation in unlocking economic potential and creating jobs. He announced plans to collapse patrol points within Lagos metropolis to create a more efficient and transparent trading environment.
