Apapa Custom Command Sets Record with Over N1 Trillion Revenue in First Half of 2024

Comptroller Babatunde Olomu's Leadership and Expertise Drivers Exceptional Performance.
In a remarkable achievement, the Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has surpassed expectations by generating over N1 trillion in revenue for the first half of 2024. This impressive feat represents a 143% increase compared to the same period in 2023, solidifying the Command's commitment to trade facilitation and national economic growth.
Under the leadership of Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, the Command's Area Controller, the revenue generated totaled N1,023,663,842,255.65, exceeding the N421,382,166,378.46 collected in the corresponding period last year. Notably, this success was achieved despite a decline in cargo throughput, demonstrating the Command's effectiveness in implementing stringent measures to prevent revenue loss.
Comptroller Olomu attributes the Command's success to the establishment of a revenue recovery committee, which identified and addressed areas of leakage in bonded terminals. Additionally, significant seizures of prohibited items, including expired and unregistered pharmaceuticals, footwear, and frozen poultry products, were made, with a cumulative Duty Paid Value of N424,105,975.00.
The Command's achievements were made possible through collaboration with other agencies, including the Nigeria Police, DSS, NDLEA, NAFDAC, SON, NIS, NAQS, Nigerian Army, and Nigerian Navy. Comptroller Olomu expressed appreciation to his team and stakeholders for their support, urging continued collaboration to achieve a better second half for 2024.
This exceptional performance demonstrates the Apapa Command's dedication to preventing illicit importation and protecting the national economy. As the Command continues to set and meet targets, its commitment to excellence is evident, making it a shining example for others to follow.
