The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step towards managing electronic waste in the state by signing a Letter of Intent with Close the Loop BV, a company from the Netherlands, to establish a smelter plant in Lagos.
Commissioner: New Plant Will Create Jobs and Stimulate Economy
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the plant will create new jobs and stimulate the economy by converting e-waste into valuable products. He emphasized the importance of proper e-waste management, citing the environmental risks associated with improper disposal.
Consul General: Netherlands Commits to Collaborating with Lagos
Netherlands Consul General in Nigeria, Mr. Michel Deleen, expressed his country's commitment to collaborating with Lagos to turn waste into value. He noted that the partnership is significant in addressing a global issue.
Representatives from Both Parties Express Optimism
Special Adviser on Environment, Mr. Rotimi Akodu, and President of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers, Ingrid Thijssen, expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting its potential benefits for both parties.
The establishment of the e-waste smelter plant is a significant step towards sustainable waste management in Lagos, and the partnership between the state government and Close the Loop BV is expected to pave the way for a more environmentally friendly and economically beneficial approach to e-waste management.
