Wealthy Muslims Urged to Embrace Zakat Principles

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Hamzat, has called on affluent Muslims to adhere to the principles of Zakat, emphasizing its role in wealth redistribution and poverty eradication. Speaking at the launch of the Ibile Muslims Community Foundation, Hamzat noted that even non-Islamic countries prioritize charity, citing the UK's £53.9 billion spent on charity in 2022.

Foundation Aims to Promote Zakat and Saddaqat

The foundation, chaired by Alhaji Muhammad Adisa, aims to remind Muslims of the obligatory pillar of Zakat, emphasizing its potential to reduce poverty globally. Adisa highlighted that regular Zakat payment would ensure peaceful coexistence and tranquility in society, debunking the notion that it reduces wealth.

Experts Stress Importance of Zakat and Empowerment

Prof. AbdulRasaq AbdulMajeed Alaro emphasized the value of Zakat in empowering people and creating a conducive society, while Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq Onikijipa stressed the importance of Zakat in fighting poverty and ill health.

Oba of Lagos Supports Foundation with N100m

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, demonstrated his support for the foundation with a donation of N100 million.

This event highlights the significance of Zakat in promoting wealth redistribution, poverty eradication, and peaceful coexistence, encouraging Muslims to embrace this important pillar of Islam.
