In a bold move to combat illicit trade, Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has vowed to make life unbearable for traders who import prohibited items through Customs-controlled ports. Speaking at the APMT terminal in Apapa port, Adeniyi unveiled 12 containers of seized pharmaceuticals worth N1.8 billion, stressing that the service will not compromise Nigerians' health for trade facilitation.

The seized containers, originating from various countries, held expired and controlled pharmaceuticals without necessary regulatory approvals, including NAFDAC numbers. The interception included:

- Expired daily health immune supplements, acyclovir capsules, valsartan tablets, and other regulated medical items

- Concealed tramadol and codeine without NAFDAC numbers

- Cutlasses and machetes totaling 27,540 pieces

Adeniyi commended the Apapa Command for the seizure, urging them to maintain their high performance. He warned that those caught will be used as scapegoats to deter others, emphasizing the service's commitment to protecting Nigerians' health and safety.
