The Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 2,290 pieces of used tyres in the Saki area of Oyo State, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and promote public safety.

According to Customs Area Controller Dr. Ben Oramalugo, the seizure was made during a routine stop-and-search operation on Monday, August 12, 2024. The used tyres were concealed in DAF trucks in an attempt to evade detection.

Oramalugo emphasized that the importation and smuggling of used tyres pose significant safety risks to citizens and are illegal. He reiterated the command's commitment to curbing the smuggling of prohibited items and enhancing the integrity of the Nigerian economy.

This seizure is part of the Nigeria Customs Service's broader efforts to protect public safety and prevent the entry of dangerous goods into the country.
