Celebrating Excellence: Customs Boss Honors Outstanding Officers at 2024 CGC Excellence Awards Night

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, recently hosted the 2024 CGC Excellence Awards Night in Abuja, a ceremony aimed at promoting professionalism and recognizing exceptional service within the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). The annual event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the National Assembly, and law enforcement agencies.
The ceremony celebrated Customs officers who excelled in their duties, ranging from revenue generation and trade facilitation to anti-smuggling operations. Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Representative of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Olawale Edun, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, who commended the NCS's critical role in enhancing national security, trade facilitation, and revenue generation.
In his remarks, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the significance of celebrating excellence within the Service, stating that positive reinforcement fosters a more dynamic, motivated, and high-performing workforce. He also acknowledged the challenges faced in 2024, including a 15% revenue deficit carried over from 2023, but expressed determination to overcome setbacks and achieve the Service's goals.
The awards ceremony reinforced the NCS's commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and professionalism, inspiring officers to continue serving the nation with dedication and pride. Among the recipients of the awards was Assistant Superintendent of Customs, Folusho Adeogun, Liaison Officer, Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network (NCBN).
The event was a testament to the NCS's efforts to promote excellence and recognize outstanding contributions. As CGC Adeniyi noted, "This strategic shift springs from our belief that positive reinforcement nurtures a more dynamic, motivated, and high-performing workforce.
