In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided a suspected "Yahoo academy" in Benin City, Edo State, on January 16, 2025.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 25 individuals allegedly undergoing training in internet fraud.

According to EFCC officials, the raid was prompted by credible intelligence suggesting that the apartment was being used as a training center for internet-related fraud and other illicit activities.

The suspects, who were taken into custody at their hideout, will face charges in court once investigations are completed. Confiscated items include six luxury vehicles, laptops, and mobile phones.

This operation highlights the EFCC's efforts to combat cybercrime and financial fraud in Nigeria.

As the agency continues to crack down on illicit activities, it remains to be seen how this will impact the broader landscape of cybercrime in the country.
