President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed new chairmen to two key maritime agencies in Nigeria, marking a significant development in the country's maritime sector. Yusuf Abubakar, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kaduna State, will lead the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) as its chairman. Meanwhile, Musa Adar, another APC stalwart from Sokoto State, has been appointed chairman of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

These appointments are part of a broader set of announcements made by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday. The appointments cover board chairpersons and chief executive officers of 45 federal agencies, all of which take immediate effect.

In the release, President Tinubu emphasized that the board chairperson roles are non-executive and instructed the appointees to avoid interfering in the management of the organizations. Other key appointments include Dr. Kayode Opeifa as Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation and Raji Kolawole as Director-General of the National Board for Technology Incubation.

Notably, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje has been appointed chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), highlighting the significant influence of the APC in the country's governance structure.

The appointments are expected to have a significant impact on Nigeria's maritime sector, which plays a critical role in the country's economy. As the new chairmen assume their roles, they will be responsible for driving growth, development, and reform in their respective agencies.
