Enhancing Maritime Surveillance: NIMASA Integrates C4i Intelligence System

 By Lod Onyeji

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has taken a significant step towards bolstering maritime surveillance and optimizing revenue generation. By granting single-user access to the Windward tool within the C4i intelligence system, NIMASA's Shipping Development Department's Surveillance Unit is poised to leverage advanced intelligence tools to enhance surveillance, prevent revenue leakages, and improve operational efficiency in the maritime sector.

This strategic integration extends the C4i facility, initially focused on maritime safety and security, into shipping development and revenue optimization. By harnessing the power of advanced intelligence tools, NIMASA aims to strengthen its regulatory oversight, improve maritime security, and enhance economic efficiency within Nigeria's waters.

The C4i Centre, a core component of the Deep Blue Project, plays a vital role in intelligence gathering and data-driven security operations. Its contributions have been instrumental in Nigeria's impressive record of zero piracy incidents over the past 24 months. With this integration, NIMASA expects to achieve greater regulatory compliance, improved maritime security, and enhanced economic efficiency.

Under the leadership of Dr. Dayo Mobereola, NIMASA's management has reaffirmed its commitment to improving internal processes for optimal performance across all operational areas. This integration marks a significant milestone in NIMASA's efforts to enhance maritime surveillance and optimize revenue generation, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of Nigeria's maritime sector.
