Nigeria Customs Service Strengthens Stakeholder Relations for Enhanced Security and Trade

In a strategic move to bolster collaboration and operational efficiency, Comptroller Benedict Oramalugo, PhD, Customs Area Controller of Seme Area Command, embarked on a two-day courtesy visit to key traditional leaders and security agencies in Badagry, Lagos State, from February 19 to 20, 2025.
This visit underscores the Command's commitment to fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, reinforcing security measures, and promoting seamless trade facilitation in the region. Comptroller Oramalugo paid homage to the Oba Akran of Badagry and the Oba of Iberoko, acknowledging traditional institutions' crucial role in maintaining peace and stability.¹
He emphasized the importance of synergy between Customs and local authorities in ensuring a secure environment for legitimate trade. The Customs boss also visited top security formations, including the Nigerian Immigration Service and the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, to enhance inter-agency cooperation.
Discussions centered on strengthening intelligence-sharing, improving border security, and tackling smuggling and trans-border crimes. Comptroller Oramalugo stressed that effective stakeholder collaboration is vital to optimizing revenue generation, enhancing border security, and contributing to national development.
He noted, "Our mission at Seme Area Command goes beyond revenue collection; it extends to ensuring national security and fostering economic growth. Strong partnerships with traditional institutions and security agencies are vital in achieving these objectives."
By fostering mutual collaboration with stakeholders, the Seme Area Command aims to optimize revenue generation, enhance border security, and contribute to national development, ultimately promoting a secure and conducive environment for legitimate trade in the region.
