In recognition of his outstanding performance, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, will receive the "Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024" award on February 13, 2025. The award dinner, organized by Nigerian Maritime Journalists, will take place at the Lagos Airport Hotel, starting at 6 pm.

This historic event marks the first time the Nigerian maritime industry has come together to honor an individual in this manner. The decision to recognize Adeniyi's achievements was unanimous among maritime journalists, representing various associations, including the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), League of Maritime Editors (LOME), and the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON).

Adeniyi's tenure has been marked by notable accomplishments, including unprecedented revenue collection, anti-smuggling efforts, trade facilitation, and infrastructure upgrades. His commitment to staff welfare, inter-agency collaboration, and corporate social responsibility has also been recognized.

The award ceremony will bring together esteemed guests from the maritime sector, including representatives from sister agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies, and freight forwarders. This event serves not only to honor Adeniyi's achievements but also to underscore the importance of accountability and transparency in the maritime industry.
