IMION Executive Course on Sustainability for the Blue Economy Concludes with Call for Collaboration

The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION) recently concluded a two-day Executive Course on Sustainability for the Blue Economy, held from May 22 to 23, 2025. The course brought together a diverse group of participants from various sectors, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Customs Service, and private companies.

In his closing remarks, Rear Admiral Thaddeus Udofia (Retired), Director General of IMION, emphasized the significance of inter-agency collaboration and sustainable development for Nigeria's maritime sector. He expressed appreciation for the collective engagement and noted that the course had equipped participants with strategies and insights to promote sustainability in the blue economy

The course covered key issues such as climate change resilience, marine resource governance, innovative financing, and stakeholder inclusivity. Mrs. Mfon Ekong Usoro, IMION consultant and managing partner, underscored the importance of embedding sustainability principles into blue economy development, highlighting the need for a "whole-of-government" approach.

The Director General charged attendees to act as ambassadors of sustainability in their various institutions and communities, urging them to turn the lessons from the course into institutional reforms, innovative policies, and practical actions. He also expressed gratitude to the Akwa Ibom State government, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chief of Naval Staff for their support.

The successful conclusion of the course marks a significant step towards promoting sustainability in Nigeria's blue economy. As participants return to their institutions and communities, it is expected that they will apply the knowledge and insights gained to drive positive change and ensure a resilient and thriving blue economy for future generations.
