The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has reorganized Operation Whirlwind, a special anti-smuggling team tasked with curbing the smuggling of petroleum products. The reorganization involves the injection of 100 new officers into the team, while 74 existing officers have been withdrawn.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency

According to a circular signed by ACG (HQ) IG Umar, the reshuffling aims to introduce new operatives into the operation while retaining a select group of experienced personnel well-versed in established procedures and protocols. The new officers have been directed to report to Operation Whirlwind Headquarters for briefings and documentation.

Continued Leadership

ACG Kehinde Ejibunu will continue to serve as the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, a testament to the confidence the Comptroller General has in his leadership and the team's achievements. Since its inception, Operation Whirlwind has made significant seizures of petroleum products worth over N1 billion, including means of conveyance.

Commitment to Stemming Smuggling

The Comptroller General has reiterated his commitment to stemming the tide of economic sabotage through smuggling. He has vowed to support Operation Whirlwind and even expressed willingness to head the team himself if necessary.

Building on Success

The reorganization and injection of new officers into Operation Whirlwind are expected to further enhance the team's effectiveness in curbing smuggling and protecting the nation's economy. The NCS remains committed to its mandate of facilitating trade while enforcing relevant laws and regulations
