NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE OGUN 1 SEIZES BILLIONS IN ILLICIT IMPORTS

The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has made a significant breakthrough in its anti-smuggling efforts, seizing goods worth billions of Naira in a recent crackdown on illicit imports. Led by Comptroller Godwin Otunla, the Command has been actively engaged in combating smuggling and protecting the nation's economy and security.
*SUBSTANTIAL SEIZURES*
The Command's recent seizures include 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 50 sacks of cannabis, 105 pieces of used pneumatic tyres, 21 bales and 3 sacks of used clothing, 3 units of foreign-used vehicles (including a luxury Rolls-Royce), and 6,400 litres of premium motor spirit (PMS). The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seized items amounts to a staggering ₦1,401,531,923.95.
*REVENUE GENERATION*
The Command's efforts have also yielded significant revenue gains, with a total of ₦45,054,191.00 generated in July 2025, representing a 27.47% increase compared to the corresponding month in 2024.
*COLLABORATIOAND INCENTIVES*
The Command has been working closely with sister security agencies and border communities to combat smuggling. The seized illicit drugs will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary action. Comptroller Otunla revealed that the Nigeria Customs Service has put in place a mechanism to encourage and incentivize dedicated and performing officers.
*COMMITMENT TO COMBATING SMUGGLING*
Comptroller Otunla reiterated the Command's commitment to combating smuggling, warning smugglers and their collaborators that the Command will not relent in its efforts. The Command remains vigilant, resolute, and unyielding in its pursuit of protecting the nation's economy and security.
