The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has clarified that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso's reported plan to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a personal decision and not representative of the party's stance. Kwankwaso, the party's 2023 presidential candidate, announced his readiness to align with the ruling APC, citing concerns about being used and abandoned after elections.

NNPP's Position: NNPP National Secretary, Comrade Ogini Olaposi, emphasized that Kwankwaso's statement confirms his expulsion from the party due to anti-party activities. "By that declaration, Kwankwaso has finally admitted that he and his movement are not part of the NNPP," Olaposi said. The party maintains that its Memorandum of Understanding with the Kwankwasiya movement ended after the 2023 presidential election.

Future Plans: The NNPP is focused on rebuilding its structures nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections. Any potential alliance with the APC or other parties would require collective decision-making by NNPP members. Olaposi criticized Kwankwaso's political relevance, stating that his value has diminished since his betrayal of the NNPP.

Concerns over INEC: The NNPP expressed concern over the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) delay in uploading the party's new leadership, which emerged from a court-ordered convention led by Dr. Agbo Major. Despite this challenge, the party remains united under its new leadership and is preparing to consolidate its position ahead of the 2027 elections.
