A Profile of Integrity: Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu Takes the Helm at FOU Zone A With Special Seizure

Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, the new Customs Area Controller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Nigeria Customs Service, is making waves with his impressive track record and commitment to excellence. With a background in academic and professional development from institutions in the UK and international training bodies, Aliyu brings a wealth of experience to his new role.His career highlights include serving as Deputy Comptroller of Enforcement at Tin Can Island Port, where his team intercepted arms, drugs, and counterfeit pharmaceuticals. Notably, he rejected a $50,000 bribe, earning commendation from the Comptroller-General. Aliyu's achievements also include leading seizures worth over ₦10 billion and being a Fellow of the Association of Counterterrorism and Security Professionals (USA).
Aliyu's priorities include intelligence-driven enforcement, strict discipline and accountability, stakeholder collaboration, and officer welfare. He also emphasizes change management, compliance management, and reputational management. Under his leadership, FOU Zone A has made significant breakthroughs, including intercepting four live pangolins smuggled along the waterways of Alapa Creek, Ajilete, and handing them over to the Wildlife Conservation Centre for safekeeping.
The Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to protecting endangered species and preserving biodiversity, and Aliyu's leadership is expected to strengthen these efforts.
