Nigeria Customs Service Launches Automated System to Streamline Trade Processes
By Lod Onyeji
Lagos, Nigeria – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched an automated system for processing licenses and permits, aiming to enhance efficiency and revenue collection. The system, introduced under the leadership of Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi, allows importers, clearing agents, and freight forwarders to apply for and renew licenses digitally from anywhere.
The system offers real-time tracking, faster processing, and increased transparency. "It means the process will be the same for everyone, fair, consistent, and without the risk of error that comes with manual records," Babandede added.
Comptroller Ngozika Anozie linked the automation to the CGC's agenda of Consolidation, Collaboration, and Innovation, highlighting benefits such as detecting fraudulent documents and cross-checking unpaid assessments.
The NCS expects increased revenue and efficiency, with officers trained to support the rollout. Stakeholders received guidance and resources to navigate the new system.
This move positions Nigeria's Customs Service among the most automated globally, reflecting its commitment to modernization and trade facilitation.
