Protecting Officers, Combating Smuggling: A Pressing Concern in Ogun 1 Command

Recent violent attacks on customs officers in Ogun 1 Command have sparked concern about officer safety and anti-smuggling strategies. Deputy Comptroller OO Afeni and the entire Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) are addressing these concerns while intensifying efforts to combat smuggling.

Smugglers pose a significant threat to officer safety, using violence and intimidation to evade law enforcement. The NCS's commitment to combating smuggling is crucial to Nigeria's economic stability.

Notably; significant achievements have been recorded in seizures of arms, ammunition, and prohibited items, digital verification platforms (CVMS) to enhance transparency and accountability, collaboration with agencies like NCCSALW disrupts smuggling networks and secure the Nation's economy from illicit traders.

Despite the determination of the Command and Service in addressing Officer Safety; that has improved so much there are still rooms for strategies to be reviewed and consultations with stakeholders broadened. There should be increased patrols and surveillance along border areas with inter-agency collaboration and additional training for officers prioritize.

The Command's Public Relations Officer highlights the Command and NCS's commitment to officer safety, noting no loss of lives among officers despite attacks, which an assay of a sort. 

In conclusion, the Idiroko Border Area Command continues to balance enforcement with officer protection, dismantling illegal trade networks thereby rattling the smugglers whom they have the capacity and capabilities to checkmate.
